Mtv VMA : Video Vanguard Award, the winners

Video Vanguard Award

Classy name for an award, is it?

This award is a lifetime achievement award, given to artists which deeply influenced the music video world, mainly those who impacted the Mtv culture. Mtv continue to give this award from the 80's until mid 90's. It faced a brief hiatus and they continue to give it in the 00's.

Big names has received this award, although Mtv has been criticised for not give out this award to some of artists, such as Tupac Shakur, and Eminem.

i'll list out some memorable Video Vanguard Award winners throughout the years.

Michael Jackson
Year receiving the award : 1988

Who doesn't know him?! basically Michael Jackson has been known to invent and popularise music videos in long duration. His contribution had impacted the production of Music Video ( Producers began to increase their budget on music video to create more visual and special effects).
His all time popular works include 'Thriller', 'Billie Jean', 'Black and White', and 'Beat it'. While Michael Jackson faced hell lots of controversies during his career, he still manage to create spectacular works throughout the 80's and 90's. Anyway, RIP MJ, king of pop :)

Madonna
Year receiving the award : 1986
If MJ is the male epitome of pop music, then the female would be Madonna. Currently 54 years old, she still managed to held her MDNA world tour last year to fans in 4 continents. Pretty amazing huh?

During the mid 80's, Madonna has been known to push the sexual boundary and imagery of lyrical contents and music video, her works mainly discussed polemical topics such as; teen pregnancy, religion, racism and sexual expression. Because of her exploration and sturdy approach on this areas, it opened up paths and roads to other artists. This contributes to feminism and changed on how the stereotypical image of how a female should act and behave. Her famous works (music videos) include; like a virgin, material girl, vogue, papa don't preach, like a prayer.

U2
Year receiving the award : 2001

U2 is among the biggest band in the world. Their 360degree tour is one of the highest grossing tour of all time. Formed in 1976, U2 make their way to the hollywood and musical scene slowly but steady. It is on the year 1987 that their album 'Joshua Tree' make their status as a 'superstar'. U2 often focus their lyrical content on vocal with a mixture of spiritual sense and social/political justification. The group reinvent themselves and had found way to essentially mix alternative rock and dance genre. Many Music critics praised U2 for being active and involving in humanitarian causes, this affects other artists as well. Their famous works include; one, with or without you, and beautiful day.

Britney Spears
Year receiving the award : 2011

Although with the sparking controversies that meddled with Spear's personal life during 2006-2008, Spears re-bounced and found her way up to the top again with her 'circus' album. But way before that, Britney Spears has settle herself for being a pop icon. Having her first 2 album certified diamond, collaborated with Madonna, and performed on stage with Michael Jackson, isn't it a good combination?   Spears has been known to create this imagery of teen pop which opens up path and inspire others young artists ( Selena Gomez, Bieber, Miley Cyrus). Her music videos attributed to lavish choreography, coming of age and sexuality. Her famous works/music videos include ; Baby one more time, Oops i did it again, I'm a slave 4 u, and toxic.

billboard music award 2013 review : controversies, splurs, deets

At my previous post,  i have said that i would going to review the controversies , splurs, something like that.. xD

This might be a bit unimportant, but it's really fun to talk about it.
EVERY hollywood award, red carpet(s), ceremonies moments, there's gotta be at least one controversial topic to talk about ( feud, worst dressed, etcetc you name it)

There is some funny and memorable moments from the 2013 billboard music award.

First of all, at the backstage of the award, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber shared a moment of brief hug on the cheek. While they do their hugging thingy, Taylor swift spot them and she is like giving the 'yuck' feeling by letting her tongue out. What is she thinking at that time? lol

RnB artist Miguel, had his performance on stage, it's actually a good performance, everything conducted smoothly. He has sung his song well. Until the near end of the performance, He attempted to do a cross jump across the stage. Well, unfortunately, He missed like 2 meter away to the stage. Because of that he landed on the near spot of cheering fans ( ouch ). The good news is both artist and the fans are okay.

Justin Bieber, that night receiving the 'milestone award' apparently received a nasty booed shout from some of the crowds. Anyway, a total of 57 seconds elapsed since Bieber called on stage until he utters his speech. That is a long time for a telecast. It's not a very loud booes, it's just that hey, when you get booed, especially you're a global phenomenon artist, it's a really is 'something' isn't it?

Kid Rock, while presenting an award, ditch on how the singers on that night had lip-synced, it's funny because it's true. I think about 6:1 ratio of the artist performing lip-sync to their song. They do sing some part, but the playback it's like 80% louder than their actual voice, which is yeah... Although some of them  backed it up with witty dance move.

I think that's all regarding the controversies ( from what i noted), of course there will be much more ( google it).

Btw this is the end of my semester exam week! i'm really happy about it, i already felt so burned out for this past couple of days. but there will be an upcoming group 4 project .-., which i'm not really had taken interest on.

That's it for now, stay tuned! bye

billboard music award 2013 review : performances

I might be late, but i decided to give some reviews about billboard music awards performance

This year's awards was held on las vegas, mgm grand arena. well, it is the usual place where the bbma was held. Personally for me there is some exciting and memorable performances, speech and tributes. but it's just that i felt for the past couple of years, the artist who made it into spotlight and steals the limelight was always been 'that' artists. You know, like taylor swift, Justin Bieber, Rihanna. It's just sometimes i got bored of them and i felt like they are being overrated, anyway that is just personal thoughts of me.

the opening performance commanded by Bruno Mars, it's a classy performance, with lots of musical instruments being elaborated on the stage, he performed his latest single 'treasure'.

This next performance really caught my eye and i must say, it's one of the best at this year's bbma, Selena Gomez, enchants the audience with her new single 'come and get it'. This performance heavily relied on some kind of india folk dance & style, and infused with the latest electronic sound pop kind of feels. i had to say that Selena Gomez really worked it out.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the rising rap/hip hop duo also performs at this year's bbma. Who doesn't know their phenomenal single 'thrift shop', Storming all the worldwide charts this year. It's been quite a long time since rap/hip hop single made a long reigns on the billboard hot 100 no.1 spot. Personally, the song is really catchy and it gives you the 'upbeat' kind of feelings.

Justin Bieber.. currently the most sensational teenage superstar, storms this year's bbma with 2 performance, he performs his latest single 'Take you', and another performance with collaboration with will.i.am '#thatPower'. i actually not a fan of Bieber himself, and i don't really like his song, but i had to say he gives an amazing performances that night, he really drive the crowds cheering..

Another performance that caught my eye was Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull. Anyway the duo has previously collaborated multiple times ( who remembers one of 2011's biggest hits 'on the floor'? ) the duo had actually create hits after hits which really racks up the charts. This time, they are back with their new single 'live it up'. As usual, Pitbull entertain the crowd with his spanish accent-ed rap, while j.lo really dance her a** off.

Last performance which caught my eye is the legendary artist Prince, i had to say i was suprised when they announce Prince going to perform at the bbma. I actually like some of his classics, such as 'When Doves Cry'. He perform his classic 1984 single 'Let's Get Crazy', which is always a staple on his concerts.

Overall, the performances from this year's bbma was good, it is really a fun-tease to the ear and a candy to the eye. There are obviously more performances that i don't put up on this blog to be reviewed, basically because i don't have the time lol. Some performers that i don't feature here are Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, and David Guetta.

If you are willing to watch their performance and get up to date news on it, you could check out billboard's website www.billboard.com

image are taken from multiple sources, credit to those who took it :)

that's it for now, i'll make a review regarding the awards, splurs and controversies next time!
stay tuned, byee!

bach's bwv 830 'air'

This is me playing one of my exam piece on a piano ( last year's abrsm exam)
just want to share it on this blog

i actually had to re-learnt this piece for a while, because i hasn't been playing it since quite a long time. anyway this actually a piece, not a whole song, this piece is taken from one of bach's movement partital. personally from me this piece's is not really hard, it's just that this piece is some kind of finger exercising, so i sometimes repeatedly make my finger twist and you know, a little mistake could lead to a major one.

anyway, enjoy!

piano

Today i finished my math exam, it was horrible really, i didn't expect to get a high mark on this one, probably a grade of 4 in terms of IB is enough. As i predicted, there would be more questions from latest chapter than the early ones, because i experienced this on my chemistry exam.

anyway i want to discuss about how i have made myself into studying piano.

As you might know, piano is the most popular, widely recognised and used musical instrument. There are lots of popular composer who have adapt their works, repertoire, pieces and whatever it is ( i really don't really familiar myself with those classy musical terms) on piano. Some of this composers are Beethoven, Mozart and Joplin.

i began enrolling myself on a piano course when i was about 7th grade. i was about 12 years old back then, some people have said that starting piano lesson at this age considered late, but for me i felt nothing's too late if we are really wanted to learn it.

And then winding up the story here i am now at 11th grade. i have made myself pass the Abrsm grade 5 practical exam last october and rooting for the 6th grade next year, i had to pass the theory exam first before i could take any grades beyond grade 5 :| literally, it sucks, musical theory probably is the most boring subjects next to civics or history. But i had no choice anyway.

Passing grade 5 at this age considered common and there are way tons of people ahead who had less age than me and made themselves a distinction in grade 8, or even a diploma. ( envy! ). sometimes i regret why i did not took piano course since i was little, or attempted to do so, but regret doesn't change anything anyway.

But i had to say that abrsm or exam doesn't really reflects your musical skills on playing the piano, it is on the personal growth, credibility, and personal style of playing.

the fact is that scientist have found research that people who able to play at least 1 musical instrument has an enhanced IQ and way of thinking. i don't really know about this, but i guess it is kinda true.

In future post i plan to post videos of me playing the piano! i still had got no time to do the recording and stuffs basically because of the semester exam week i've in ( or i'm just lazy ).

that's it for now, stay tune! byee

exam week

this will be my exam week until friday, and i had to tell you that it is quite hard to cope up with it.

as an IB student myself, not only there are plenty of assignments and stuffs like that but there is plenty of materials accounted for the exam.

the problem is that it is my everyday habit to procrastinate -.- so i had waited until the last 1-2 days before the exam to study. studying a.k.a student dying for long hours for a day isn't going to help, i sometimes experienced headache and fatigue (lol) after like 4 hours of study.

This monday will be my math exam, and i honestly i am not prepared, and instead of studying, i am posting a blog entry .-. . i'm tired because i think i burnt myself out after thursday's chemistry exam.

i want to share about the subjects that i took on the IB, apparently because i decided i'm going to take more of a technology or engineering major on university, so science would be my primary aim. i took chemistry, physics, math, business, english, and indonesian, the first 3 from the list i took in HL o.o . at first i thought that i could manage it well but now i am struggling and i am nowhere on the edge of glory.

but this is just my first year towards finishing half of the IB years, so i could use the summer holidays for revision and bounce back up to what i miss and not capable of the subjects. i mean there is still plenty of time to change my habit anyway haha..

therefore, my suggestion if any of you take the IB, just don't procrastinate, study your materials like a week before and make some time for it everyday. i always regret why my laziness kill the mood of studying form distant time before the exam begins.

that's it from now, i am going to torture myself with math for the rest of the day.

hello

hi, welcome to my blog, I'm fabian albin, currently 16 years old, an IB student

i live in indonesia, current city is surabaya

i made this blog to pour out every interest upon things i do in my life, i'm sure it would be rewarding to share the everyday experience that i've had.

i'm interested in music, arts, games, science and languages.

for me, music is a universal way to express your inner self, also to show how the play of your feelings resides. Arts on the other hand, act as a visual manifestation of all the craze hiding on the innermost of your heart. Everything is art. They say that earth without art is just eh :p

i found myself to be interested in sciences too , you know like math, chemistry, stuffs like that. it is a wonder to discover how the mechanism of stuffs could be made to stuffs! ( xD ). my opinion is that science is just important as how survival, technology, and health works.

another thing i took interest in are languages. it's so fascinating how every languages had their own unique expressions and idioms. some phrase in certain language also could not be translated, wonder why? because they had their own colloquial meaning and unique justifications which our linguistic sense cannot just translate and perceive to another language! isn't it magnificent?

i think that's all for now, i'll keep posting !!
